The Songbook and how to use it
The Fun With Folk songbook is a growing resource.  New songs will be added to build a songbook that covers all of England.
You can use it in the classroom, or use it to prepare lessons beforehand.
Songs - Each song provides:
  • Display. The lyric displayed so that the whole class (or school) can read and sing from an interactive whiteboard.
  • Audio files. An audio file that will play from the computer for the children to sing along to. Audio files that children can download onto their mp3 players. Where possible we have recorded children singing the songs.  Click the green play button below the song words.
  • Song Sheets. We are adding PDF* songsheets for you to download and print-out containing the words of each song.  Scroll down the song to find the link.
Additional Resources - At the bottom of each page of the songbook you may also find additional information and resources
  • Song information. Context for the song – where and when it was collected, who collected it and who from.  Some historical notes about the story.  What some of the more unusual terms or phrases mean.
  • Instructions. For singing games we provide instructions on how to play the game, and where possible a video clip of the game – so you can see it for real.
  • Educational information.
  • Curriculum links. Suggested ways of using the song to support the work you are doing in the curriculum.
  • Fun Stuff You will also find that some songs also have some Fun Stuff attached – Animations**, video** and activities designed to engage children.
